Fundraisers dress up for WSPA

Once you have a great fundraising event planned, make sure everyone else knows about it!

Before the day, there are lots of things you can do to make for a well-attended event.

  • Publicise your event with a selection of customisable WSPA posters. To download the posters right click the link and select 'Save Target as...' :

  • Try to get a local celebrity, MP or Mayor involved.

  • Send a news release with picture, or offer a pre-event photo opportunity, to help publicise the event in advance. Ensure you send your release to a wide range of media outlets such as local newspapers, national papers, radio stations and local television news. Follow up all press releases with a phone call within 24 hours.

  • Ask for your event to feature in any free listing or 'What's On' sections of local papers of local council websites.

  • Display posters in local shops, pubs, libraries, at work and anywhere else you can think of.

  • Tell everyone you know about the event and ask them to tell everyone they know.

  • A week before your event invite your local newspaper reporter and photographer to attend. Hopefully by now they will already know it's happening!

On the day

  • Hand out flyers to passers by (WSPA can provide flyers).

  • Make time for an interesting photo opportunity for local journalists or take pictures yourself.

After the event

  • Let the local media know how much money you raised so they can write a follow up and send them pictures if they did not actually attend the event.
