A WSPA Champion's story

Joanne, one of our WSPA Champions

Why did Joanne decide to become a WSPA £5,000 Champion?

I decided to become a WSPA Champion because I care a great deal about animals and wanted to do something that would make a difference.

The money I raise will help fund WSPA’s work protecting wildlife. I love bears and think the way they are treated by some people is appalling, so I have decided that now is as good a time as any to help.

Since I became a WSPA Champion I have signed up to go on the Bear Adventure as part of my fundraising efforts. I can’t wait to see real life bears and know that I have helped to free them from the awful conditions they were kept in.

My target of £5,000 is a lot of money but I’m trying not to think of it that way. If I can do a few small events like coffee mornings and raffles at work then I think may target will be achievable in 12 months.

I’ve already started to contact local businesses for prizes. My local pub has been brilliant and have agreed to host a quiz for me as well as donating a bottle of champagne to be used as a prize.

So far I am really enjoying being a WSPA Champion and am looking forward to the sense of achievement once I reach my target!
